Still very impressed

Sunday, April 05, 2020

After one month of ownership still amazed with this car. We love it. So much attention to detail. We got all options except for a sun roof which we would not use. Harman kardon sound system is fantastic. Also really like the navigation and semi self steering system. This car is also very fast. No turbo lag at all. Seats are also very comfortable. We got the t5 awd model.

One year and repurchased as a Lemon

Thursday, June 02, 2022

This car was a nightmare. When it worked, the comfort, styling and drive comfort were great. Unfortunately it was the most unreliable car I have ever owned. The car experienced a complete power failure five times and required flat bed towing to the dealership. Despite Volvo's promise of quick response towing, this was not the case. Since the car was frozen after each power failure, it had to be dragged to the tow truck and put on a flat bed. Only limited companies have such capacity and each tow took up to five hours to complete. Once at the dealership, they spent days after each failure to try to fix the problem. I was never given a loaner as they were all gone. And, Volvo corporate never contacted me to help improve the situation. After five complete power failures, Volvo repurchased the car under a Lemon Law provision. They never called, discussed, or tried to arbitrate any trade or other resolution. This is and was my worst experience with any automaker. If one looks at forums, this is not a unique experience. Although it may be rare, it is not so rare that there are no numerous reports of similar issues. Simply search for Volvo XC40 recharge, power failure. There is even a thread called, "dead as a doornail." If you live in an area with many Volvo dealers, there may be a loaner, assistance or adequate service. However, if you are in an area with only one dealer, or the closest one is miles away, you will begrudge the decision to purchase this car which is clearly a work in progress.
